"Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin..."
I was reminded of this part of scripture today as I was forced to go on a hike with my fellow interns a several staff members. My father used to call me a lily of the field. Yep. I'm high maintenance. I considered our trek through the woods, crawling over jagged rocks and hardly stopping as a form of punishment. I kept hearing the phrase "this is fun" escape my colleague's lips. I was confused. I was sweating, out of breath and had a pounding sinus headache. I kept most of the swearing internalized. I did, however, get a comment from the intern supervisor that I have heard before: "So, you're not really an outdoorsy type of girl, are you?" Yeah, that was my day.
I could spend quite a few posts crafting an ode to the Metro and public transportation in the city. I'll spare you most of the details, but it's interesting to watch all the commuters coming in from Virginia, boarding first a bus then a train to get to work. They don't talk to anyone but spend their time reading the Post or the Express (a short version of the Post) or listening to music on their iPods. Man I want one of those. You kind of feel like you're a part of the culture, but it's exhausting watching everyone be so exhausted. Being stressed and tired is a requirement in the city.
Things are going alright at work. I haven't had as much to do as I would like, but I guess that's an internship for you. Apparently, I work faster than previous interns the Communications department has had, so they are having to think up more projects for me to work on. I guess you shouldn't tell your employers that you're really bored. But maybe I'll get some fun stuff to do out of it.
Current listening: Coldplay, X&Y. If you do not have this yet, you must purchase it. Otherwise, we cannot be friends.
My brother actually shot a mouse in his apartment with a BB gun. Luckily it was on top of newspaper so the blood didn't get on the carpet. Crazy stuff goes down out in LA.
Long and tiring days, waking up at 5:30 a.m. and going to bed at 10:30 p.m. Is this what adulthood is going to be like?
